Macedon Ranges and Spa Country Day Tour

This region to the north of Melbourne is one of central Victoria’s best kept secrets as far as many Melburnians are concerned. It is within an hour’s easy reach of the CBD yet is relatively quiet year-round from a tourist’s perspective. It features the spectacular forested Macedon Ranges with stunning vistas from the summit of Mt Macedon. The ranges are surrounded by beautiful farmland offering a semi-rural lifestyle to those who live there but still work in the city.

The Spa Country area around Daylesford features

several natural thermal springs with health spas and retreats, such as those at Hepburn Springs, popular for weekend relaxation and natural therapies.

This tour takes in the stunning and varied countryside of this region with the first stop being at the summit of Mt Macedon. The ride to the summit up the southern side of the mount passes through stunning woodland featuring many deciduous and native flora, making it particularly beautiful during the spring and autumn months. Arriving at the summit is literally a world away from the city yet easily within 90 minutes of the CBD. A short walk to the Memorial Cross reveals a breathtaking view south across farmland and forest parks towards the city and even the coastline on a very clear day.

From the summit we ride a gentle descent down the northern side of the ranges and through wooded farmland which then sees us arriving in the small country town of Romsey for the morning tea stop. Great food, coffee and friendly service awaits at the best café in Romsey – The Bay Tree Coffee Shop.

After morning tea the scenic route to Daylesford riding passed Hanging Rock takes you through farm, woodland and open country prior to lunch in Daylesford. Feel free to remove all of your motorcycle clothing and leave it with your riders while you take lunch and a stroll around the town centre if you wish. There are plenty of lunch options to choose from but we can recommend The Gourmet Larder for their high quality meals and beautifully presented café.

After lunch, the tour continues through the back roads of the open country north west of the city, which is distinctly different to the Macedon Ranges area. This spectacular run takes us through Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne for afternoon tea at Roomba’s café before the return ride to the CBD along the Calder Freeway. The city views on the return are simply breathtaking with the best up close CBD views to be had on the CityLink Freeway and on the Bolte Bridge just prior to returning to the meeting point or your CBD hotel.

Kinglake-North Central DAY Tour

This tour takes in the beautiful Kinglake National Park to the northeast of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and the southern area of the North Central region (including the Goulburn Valley and the Macedon Ranges areas).

On leaving the CBD, we ride through the beautiful open country to the north and northwest of the city just off the Tullamarine Freeway as we head towards Healesville via the Kinglake National Park. The quiet roads we ride on the way to the morning tea stop at The Growling Frog Golf Course make for very pleasant riding and give no

indication that we are still so close to the city. Great views of the national park and the golf course provide a great backdrop to a good cup of coffee in the Growling Frog Café.

After morning tea, we continue on up into the heart of the national park along beautiful winding roads through peaceful old-growth forest and farmland with the occasional view of the distant city through the trees. We are no more than 50km from the CBD as the crow flies on this section of the tour and yet it seems that we are a million miles away from the bustle of the city. We arrive in the Healesville area around lunchtime and lunch can either be had in the township itself or at one of several wineries in the vicinity – the choice is yours. All of your motorcycle clothing can be removed and left with your riders while you stroll through town or around the winery.

After lunch we pass through the northern end of the Yarra Valley on the way to the Melba Highway and head north out of Yarra Glen. We again pass through the Kinglake National Park but on a different road as we travel out into the open country and rolling hills of the North-Central region of Victoria.

Passing through the town of Yea we join the Goulburn Valley Highway and head northwest, running parallel to the Goulburn River through the southern tip of a major Victorian farming and fruit growing region. The Goulburn Valley is a huge area stretching from Seymour in central Victoria up to Echuca on the Murray River.

We then head south with a short hop on the Hume Highway before heading across more beautiful farmland, stopping in Romsey for afternoon tea at The Bay Tree Café. We begin the return to Melbourne via the stunning Macedon Ranges before joining the Calder Freeway for the return to the city. The final leg of the freeway journey along CityLink and over the Bolte Bridge offers truly magnificent views of the city centre before we arrive at the designated meeting point or your hotel.

Yarra Valley Day Tour

The beautiful Yarra Valley is approximately an hour and a half east of the CBD by freeway, suburban and country roads.

The Yarra Valley is one of Victoria’s premier wine producing regions that has international standing and features rolling vineyards, pristine rivers and towering mountains covered in old growth forests. Numerous wineries have cellar door sales and restaurants serving gourmet food and excellent local produce accompanied by their wines. There are numerous natural attractions in this region including the wildlife sanctuary at Healesville, a multitude of forest walks and small

towns in addition to the vineyards. This region is also a prime water catchment area for Melbourne due to its pristine forests and the Yarra River.

This tour takes in the rolling wooded hills that form the Warrandyte State Park region and Sugarloaf Reservoir catchment area on the way out to the valley. There is a brief rest stop at the reservoir before continuing on with spectacular views of the valley through the trees on the descent from Christmas Hills to the small town of Yarra Glen for the morning tea stop at a great cafe.

The remainder of the morning is spent meandering around the Valley region taking in the beautiful open country and views of the wineries and magnificent Yarra Ranges National Park. Lunch is taken at one of several wineries close to Healesville. During the lunch stop, feel free to remove all of your motorcycle clothing and leave it with your riders, this allows you to fully relax in your normal street clothing and perhaps to stroll around the winery.

Having circumnavigated the Yarra Valley during the morning, the afternoon sees us heading north through the forested Kinglake National Park region situated northeast of the city. This makes a beautiful contrast to the open country of the valley - the tranquility of the old growth forests is simply breathtaking. We descend from national park and pass through Whittlesea before riding across some spectacular open country north of the city for the afternoon tea stop at the Growling Frog Golf Course. Excellent views of the national park and the golf course are to be had from the Growling Frog Café.

After this rest stop we make our way back to the City, past Melbourne International Airport, down the Tullamarine and Citylink Freeways, and then into the CBD. Great views of the CBD are seen from the CityLink Freeway and Bolte Bridge as we make our return to the designated meeting point or your CBD hotel.

Mornington Peninsula Day Tour

The scenic Mornington Peninsula is approximately an hour and a half south-east of the CBD and is reached by traveling along a combination of suburban roads, expressway and freeway.

This spectacular coastline with beautiful sandy bayside and Bass Strait beaches is a popular destination throughout the year for Melburnians due to its close proximity to the city and surrounding suburbs. The peninsula also has rich green hinterland consisting of vineyards and farmland hiding wineries, country retreats, cottages and B&Bs.

Healesville Sanctuary day Tour

This tour takes the scenic route to the Healesville Animal Sanctuary in the Yarra Valley. We depart from the CBD and head northwest out of the city via the CityLink and Tullamarine Freeways and passed Melbourne International Airport. We then leave the main highway and ride the quiet roads through the open country to the north of the city.

Impressive views of the CBD skyscrapers we have left behind and the beautiful Kinglake National Park are to be had as we head towards The Growling Frog Golf Course café for morning tea. You can enjoy the great views of the course

This tour takes in the farmland, forest and wine-making areas of the central Mornington Peninsula on the outbound journey. As we approach the bayside coast, sneak peaks of the blue water and great views of the iconic Arthur’s Seat greet you as we exit the forest and begin the gentle ascent to the summit. We stop for morning tea at the Arthur’s Hotel Café at the summit where breathtaking views of the peninsula, Port Phillip Bay and the City coupled with the fresh air make Melbourne seem more than a mere ninety minutes away.

The views on the descent from the summit to Dromana on the bayside coast make the ride a totally different experience to the ascent through the forest. We continue south along the bayside coast to Sorrento and Portsea, pausing to view the open ocean from the Portsea Ocean Beach, before returning to Sorrento for lunch at the Sorrento Hotel. There are plenty of lunch options available in Sorrento if you would prefer to take a stroll and eat elsewhere. You can remove all of your motorcycle clothing and leave it with your riders while you take a stroll through the town or along the bayside beach.

The afternoon sees us gradually make our way up the bayside coast road and stopping at various lookouts along the way to appreciate the beautiful bayside region and its beaches. The afternoon tea stop is in Mt Eliza before continuing on towards the CBD which gradually looms larger on the horizon. The scenery on both sides of the road is ever-changing as we pass through many beachfront suburbs - with an amazing variation in both the styles of the waterfront properties and the beachfront itself. The comfortable passenger seat of the BMWs is the perfect vantage point to appreciate all of this and 'people watch' without having to worry about the traffic.

The final leg of the bayside journey through Sandringham, Brighton and St Kilda allows some spectacular waterfront views of the CBD prior to returning to the city centre.

In addition to the general admission, there are opportunities to meet the keepers and experience ‘behind-the-scenes’ with tailored tours conducted at specific times. Please refer to the Healesville Sanctuary link below for further details.

After you have completed your visit to the Sanctuary, the tour continues as we begin to leisurely head back towards the city through the stunning Yarra Valley. Taking the Old Healesville Rd from Healesville to Yarra Glen and then on through Yering, passing beautiful wineries and pasture for afternoon tea at the Sebel Heritage Country Club nestled alongside the Yarra River, Mt Lofty and Warrandyte State Parks. This tranquil location with excellent golfing faciities is within easy reach of metropolitan Melbourne but gives the feeling that you are many miles from the hustle and bustle of the city.

THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD DAY TOUR

This tour takes in the absolutely spectacular Great Ocean Road to Apollo Bay before climbing the forested hills adjacent to the Great Otway National Park and heading inland through beautiful open farming country on the return to Melbourne.

We depart Melbourne CBD from your hotel or one of the designated meeting points and head to Geelong along the M1 Freeway exiting the city via the Westgate Bridge, which offers stunning views of the city and surrounds.

This first leg of the journey is straight and flat with good views out to the You Yangs Regional Park and Brisbane Ranges National Park. We stop on the Geelong waterfront for morning tea looking out onto Corio Bay. Geelong is an industrial city with many residents commuting to work in Melbourne but it has an attractive waterfront popular with locals and tourists alike at the weekends.

After morning tea at Sailor's Rest, we leave Geelong and continue south to join the Great Ocean Road after Torquay. We then pass through Anglesea and Airey’s Inlet before stopping for a café or pub lunch in Lorne. You can remove all of your motorcycle clothing if you wish and leave it with your riders allowing you to take a stroll along the beach or through the local shops.

After lunch we continue on towards Apollo Bay through more exhilarating scenery. The open ocean views combined with the rugged hillsides of the Angahook-Lorne State Park are best viewed from the back of a motorcycle as there is so much to look at around every turn. Sections of the GOR have many gentle bends that reveal a new and spectacular view around each one and the absence of a roof over your head ensures you don’t miss anything! We stop at scenic lookouts regularly allowing you to stretch your legs and appreciate the incredible views from a standstill.

We leave the Ocean Road a few kilometres before Apollo Bay heading inland through forested hills offering excellent views of the coastline as we head towards the open farm country of West Central Victoria. Expansive views in all directions offer plenty to look at as we return to Geelong before rejoining the M1 and heading back towards Melbourne. Truly awesome views of the city centre great us on the final leg of the journey over the Westgate Bridge before arriving back in the CBD.
