It is important to note that a new microphone cover is given to the pillion passenger at the start of every tour for hygiene purposes.

The key features of this system are:

  • Voice-activated (VOX) communication - this system reacts within one millisecond of speech commencing thereby ensuring all speech is captured.

The VOX system ensures that microphones are switched off when not in use and, coupled with the noise reduction and filtration technology, results in zero interference.

  • Independently adjustable rider and passenger microphone volume levels.

This ensures that rider/passenger communication is as easy as being face-to-face.

  • The UHF transceivers allow motorcycle-to-motorcycle communication, these can be switched on and off as required by the rider whilst still allowing communication between the rider and pillion.

When the transceivers are switched on they are set to VOX and react in the same manner as the rider to pillion communications - however a small pause is required after each person speaks to allow the system to switch off and reset for the next transmission.

There are 38 standard UHF channels available for communication which can be changed by the rider should a particular channel be subject to interference or in use by other parties.

  • Any MP3 player, such as an iPod, can be connected to the control module via a standard headphone output lead. The music player can be kept safely in a jacket pocket for easy access.

This means that pillion passengers can listen to their own choice of music during a tour if they wish. Communication is still possible as the system instantaneously reduces the music volume to 50% when speech commences and returns to normal volume when speech ends.

Helmet communications

The supplied Nolan N102 ‘flip face’ motorcycle helmets have earphones and microphones fitted inside the helmet liners. The high quality earphones are situated in recesses in the helmet padding so that pressure is not applied to the ears ensuring comfort.

The boom-mounted microphone rests gently on the lips - this position is necessary for immediate voice activation of the microphone when speaking.

at the rear left side of the passenger seat.

  • The coiled extension leads have plenty of length to allow comfortable movement whilst on the motorcycle without exerting any pulling force on the helmet.

  • The connection leads can be easily plugged in or unplugged whilst wearing the supplied gloves.

Your rider will remind you at each stop that the extension lead must be unplugged prior to dismounting the motorcycle, this is to prevent you becoming tangled in the lead and also to prevent damage to the communications system.

AutoCom control module and Uniden UHF transceivers

These two pieces of equipment are fitted to the motorcycle itself and do not need to be carried by riders or passengers. The leads that connect to the helmets are within easy reach and simple to connect and disconnect during your tour.

Connecting to the system

Once the passenger is comfortably seated on the motorcycle, the audio extension lead from the helmet is then attached to the input/output socket

COMMUNICATIONS

Each of the BMW K1200GTs is fitted with an AutoCom communications system coupled with a Uniden 12W UHF transceiver. This configuration allows rider-to-pillion and motorcycle-to-motorcycle communication.
